Digital Addiction and Social Media Pressure:
How They Affect the Cognitive Development of Teenagers (Ages 15-18)
In the current generation, technology and social media have become an inseparable part of teenagers' daily lives. Mobile phones, tablets, social networks, laptops, other modern devices and media play a vital role in education, communication, entertainment, and knowledge sharing. Technology-enabled innovation and constant access to the internet allow people to accomplish more than ever before. However, such convenient access is associated with significant drawbacks, such as digital addiction. Digital addiction is a severe problem, as it affects teenagers' lives and routines, family relationships, sleep cycle, education, and other essential areas. At the same time, since adolescents are at the period where the human brain is still developing, it is important to explore how digital addiction and social media usage can impact students' cognition.
Therefore, this research aims to investigate the effects of digital addiction and social media usage on students' cognitive development. The paper will discuss the impact of these phenomena and propose a survey to measure the level of digital addiction among Grade 11 students, particularly at UBLC, as well as suggest methods to develop healthy and sustainable patterns of technology use.
